TORTONA DESIGN WEEK 2018 | Guide to Milan Fuorisalone

Fuorisalone is the set of events distributed in different areas of Milan on the same days when the Salone Internazionale del Mobile takes place, which is staged in the stands of Rho Fiera.

The Fuorisalone is not a Fair event, it doesn’t have a central organisation and it’s not managed by any Institution. It started spontaneously early in the 1980’s thanks to the will of companies working in the furnishing and industrial design sectors.

Let’s see more in detail what are the previews for the 2018 edition of Fuorisalone in Tortona.

Known for his captivating exhibitions during design week, Nendo returns for 2018 setting sights on Tortona for the solo spectacle. Set across 800 sqm, the Japanese studio will showcase 10 concepts in the theme of movement, an ongoing exploration for the design practice. Creating a labyrinth of designs, sketches and processes, the show is part of the Superdesign at Superstudio, this year art directed by Giulio Cappellini.

Japan loves Superstudio. In fact, in addition to Nendo, an entire enclave of successful companies, start-ups and hubs of promotion of Made in Japan design arrives in Central Point, for an itinerary through space and time, contrasts between the most inventive technology and millennial traditions.
Kawai, in collaboration with the light artist Takahiro Matsuo, exhibits the poetic installation “Crystal Rain” where a piano with a transparent end, created to celebrate the company’s ninety years, floats on a water glass generating a light waterfall to every note.

Cappellini will curate an exhibition at Superstudio all dedicated to Made in Italy. The Superloft by Cappellini will be an imaginary yet real home, featuring the most interesting Italian design brands and masters craftsmen. A real superloft, that will also be an International home, to be placed in Paris as well as in New York in Berlin or Shanghai.
